All aboard!

Guess who decided to hop on the potty train this week? Rykerman! Monday we decided that he was ready to tackle the big boy potty. At first he was pretty reluctant. We made him an offer that he couldn't pass up, though. If Ryker could go on the big boy potty and stop using diapers then he could get Cars 2 on DVD. So, as much as he fought the idea, he complied. It has been a long week for him. Some visits resulted in tears. A lot of laundry has been done at this house over the last 6 days. But each day it has gotten easier, more and more successes with fewer and fewer accidents. Today was the first day that he actually told us when he had to go potty and he even got out of bed tonight and went all by himself! He has a cheering squad: we erupt in applause and shouts of praise each time he has a victory, Deklan claps and screams "YEA!" at the sound of Ryker saying he went potty. He has had such marked improvement each day. We are so blessed to have this be going as smoothly as it has gone. I know this is a fight for some parents. By no means has it been a cake walk for us, but it has certainly been manageable.

Ryker's little lady, Lainie, came over this past weekend. Ryker hosted his first sleepover. We had a pizza party and then watched some Curious George. Lainie and Ryker baked cupcakes and animal cakes for dessert. They poured in the ingredients and held the mixer. They were tasty! The boys got some cute sleeping bags for Christmas (thanks Aunt Mimi!) and since Deklan is still in the crib, Lainie and Ryker camped out on the floor of the boys' room in them. All three of the kids had a great time (and actually got some sleep). We woke up the next morning and had snowman pancakes. Then, we headed out to play in the snow. There wasn't quite enough to do some serious sledding, and it wasn't the packing kind so we couldn't build a Frosty. However, there was no shortage of fun. Afterwards, we headed inside for some cocoa. Lainie, Ryker and Deklan helped make lunch (doghetti). It was ready just in time for Lainie's Mom to arrive. It is so much fun watching Ryker and Deklan interact with Lainie. They both adore her and interact so well with her. The kids really enjoy dancing, singing, and playing  together...we are all, very much, looking forward to the addition of her little sis this summer. I tease Lainie's Mom that now I can arrange both of my son's weddings!

As is always the case, Daddy-time is everyone's favorite time at our house. When Jevon comes home from work our house comes alive. The boys love tussling around with him. Ryker and Daddy play sports. Lately the boys have ball fights where they launch plastic balls through the house at one another. I can only imagine what that will look like when Deklan can throw a ball with any kind of force!

It has been a great week for Ryker. My little munchkin is a great big boy! Well done, Rykerman. We are so proud of you!
